INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA– A former fat cat has captivated the internet after shedding his plus-sized physique and is now sharing his dramatic weight loss secrets with other animals who may be having difficulty getting motivated to lose weight.
Garfield Jackson, 3, has been posting photos on his Instagram of his four month-long journey to lose a whopping 14 pounds, attracting widespread attention from across the globe.
The three-year old feline explains that he had a very complicated relationship with food as a kitten as the tubby cat eventually ballooned up to a colossal 24 pounds, making it difficult for him to do simple daily tasks like sleeping and bathing.
“I got to the point where I couldn’t get out of bed,” Garfield recalled, showing Fox News reporters his now bulging muscles. “I remember when I was still a kitty I used to sneak in a little extra milk while my mom and siblings were sleeping.”
Garfield went on to say that eventually his mom caught on to him overeating and would cover herself up at night so he couldn’t get any more second and third helpings of the fatty treat.
Like his famous namesake, Garfield says his favorite binge food was lasagna and he would consume an average of 5 pounds of the food a day in addition to other unhealthy snacks, such as catnip-flavored donuts and tuna ice cream.
He continued, “Eventually it got to the point where I would just sleep in my litter box most of the day with my food bowl in front of me. I could no longer wash myself due to the size of my body. I was a depressed and miserable mess.”
After getting his portly body stuck inside of his cat door, says Garfield, he decided that it was time to make a major physical as well as mental change in his life.
“I started walking every day,” Garfield explained. “Once I noticed the major changes that were taking effect, such as my belly not scraping the floor when I walked and being able to chase mice around the neighborhood, it motivated me to do more.”
The slender feline works out every day and avoids all junk food and sugar and is currently training for a Strongest Cat fitness competition in July. He says the only downside to his extreme weight loss is all the plus-size clothing that’s now too big.
“I gave all my big clothes away to a pig that lives next door to me,” Garfield laughed.
