TOMS RIVER, NEW JERSEY– A 2-year-old chipmunk faces charges of burglary and residential entry in connection to an incident that occurred on Thursday.
At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, police responded to a possible breaking and entering, searching for a suspect described as a small Eastern chipmunk with reddish-brown fur, wearing a hat and a blue and white outfit.
The suspect has been identified as Alvin Dale, alleged by police to have been exiting the home by running extremely fast.
After a thorough search of the suspect, police uncovered six peanuts that were stuffed into the rodent’s cheek pouches and another three hidden inside of his jacket.
Dale entered the home by smashing a window while the homeowner, who is also a chipmunk, was hibernating for the winter.
Police also found several kilograms of mushrooms inside the suspect’s pockets and the chipmunk tested positive for being under the influence of the narcotics.
Authorities charged Dale with breaking and entering, petty theft, and simple assault for biting one of the officers with his strong teeth.
