ARMADILLO, TEXAS– Bamboo Origin’s New Cub spacecraft launched into space today on its 69th ever test flight.
The four bear trip carried 50 lbs of NASA-sponsored bamboo plants to suborbital space and back. The mission, which lasted 5 minutes and 10 seconds, was cut short after the four astronauts ran out of food.
Bamboo Origin officials stated that they had hoped the New Cub rocket would have lasted at least double that time, but were well aware of using panda bears as astronauts when trying to deliver precious bamboo plants into space and back.
“I almost missed the New Cub’s landing,” said Bamboo Origin’s feline director Patches Meowser. “As soon as the spacecraft took off I curled up into a little ball on the floor, thinking that I had at least ten minutes for a catnap. As soon as I got comfortable I heard my colleagues saying that the rocket was coming back down to earth already.”
Bamboo Origin launched the BS-69 mission during the partial government shutdown, which is one of the reasons NASA utilized the private company to test the bamboo carrying flight.
NASA chief Mutton Chopps added, “We hope these NASA-supported experiments will help advance the delivery system of food to our animals out in space because you never know when you’ll get a late night hankering for something dry, tasteless, and unpalatable.”
